Written by on 20/11/2024

(November 19, 2024) Tonight we say a sad goodbye to singer extraordinaire Diva Gray.  Gray was a powerhouse vocalist and performer whose golden voice graced some of the most iconic disco, soul, and pop hits of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Gray’s cause of death has not been announced.

Born and raised in New York City, Gray honed her craft in that city’s vibrant music scene. She made her mark as a sought-after session and background singer, earning recognition for her ability to elevate tracks with her soulful delivery and dynamic range.

Gray’s breakthrough came as part of the acclaimed studio group Diva Gray & Oyster, which released their self-titled album in 1979. The record, brimming with funky grooves and lush disco arrangements, showcased Gray’s commanding lead vocals and her ability to bring depth and emotion to dance-floor anthems.

Beyond her work with Oyster, Diva Gray became a go-to background singer for some of the biggest names in music, contributing to projects by legends such as Luther Vandross, Chic, and David Bowie. Her distinctive voice added sparkle to albums and live performances alike. She was also the notable lead voice in the 1981 Change hit “Paradise.”

A true unsung hero of her era, Diva Gray’s artistry helped define the sound of disco and soul, and she will be greatly missed.
