Release of long lost 1974 WAR live album shows group at its peak
(February 9, 2025) A revolutionary band that combined elements of soul, rock, funk, jazz and latin influences and knocked down a variety of barriers with its multi-cultural line-up, WAR established itself in the 1970s as one of the most important and influential bands of the rock era. And now a long lost concert from the group’s Imperial Period is available for fans.
After touring across the United States and Europe for much of 1974, in support of their newly released album Deliver The Word, WAR decided to take their laidback West Coast sound to Japan—bookending their epic tour run with dates across Shizuoka, Tokyo, Osaka and Kobe. The result is a staggering collection of recently discovered live recordings from those concerts, available for the first time on vinyl and CD. Live In Japan 1974 includes free-wheeling performances of WAR classics like “The Cisco Kid”, “The World Is A Ghetto”, “Gypsy Man” and more, all beautifully packaged with rare photos from the trip.
